The Magic of Elf on a Shelf

As the nights grow longer and the air gets crisper, the countdown to Christmas becomes all the more magical. Among the many festive traditions adopted in recent years, one particular mischievous visitor has captured the hearts and imaginations of families across the UK ...

What Is Elf on a Shelf?

Elf on a Shelf is a newish Christmas tradition that brings magical mischief in the run up to Christmas day. The idea is a cheeky little elf arrives at the start of the festive season to keep an eye on children's behaviour and report back to Santa each night. Every morning, the elf reappears in a new spot, often caught in the middle of some silly or mischievous antics.

For children, waking up to find out what their elf has been up to overnight is exciting. Often getting up to some mischief in the night. The elf also serves as a gentle reminder to be behave in the run-up to Christmas, knowing that any naughty behaviour will be reported back to Santa.

While Teeny aged out of Santa magic by the time the elf made its grand debut, I do love how creative parents can get and I've created a huge kit to make your elves visit as magical as possible. You can find it here.

The kit is full of different prompts and printables including a tiny Elf-opoly board and medical notes from Dr Ivy Glacier, head elf doctor from the north pole, just in case you forget to move your elf, and they need some R & R time. Everything will be ready to download right away too, so no needing to wait for the postie!

· Plan Ahead: There are 3 pages full of prompt ideas as well as corresponding printables to help you set up your scene.

· Keep It Simple: Children love the magic, not the complexity. Even the simplest scenes bring joy.

· Get the Whole Family Involved: Older siblings can join in on the fun and help create elf adventures.

· Don’t Stress: If you forget to move the elf, don’t worry - Dr Ivy Glacier has you covered with 2 sick notes, requiring your elf to have some down time.
