Hair Show 2016

It feels so good to just be able to sit and type out this post knowing that i can breathe for a little while before i need to start my next big assessment.

Last week i completed my Bridal assessment which was part of the Hair Show the College was showcasing at the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock.

It was a long day but we all pulled it off and it was a great night.

Here are some pics from the day/night :)

My model before i got started ... I didn't get a chance to take some after photos of my model as i was asked to help out another girl as she needed a model for hot rollers.

I had big hair for the night afterwards :)

While i got my hair set, my model went into make-up. This lady is very talented!

I just had enough time to give her nails a quick coat of glitter polish while the rollers set in my hair.

We went down to the Grand Hall to finish getting ready. We didn't get a chance to try the dress on before the day but thankfully it fit her so she got changed and i did a few last minute touch ups. There was a lot of sitting around waiting as i managed to get all my hair prep done before 2pm. The rehearsal was at 5.30 and the show was due to start at 7pm.

This is my finished design ... A Chignon with ornamentation.

Chilling backstage before the big show ... nervous!

A quick snap of the stage before everyone started to arrive.

Let the show begin!

Time to take to the stage

My stunning bride :)

Make It Monday #5

Hey lovely's ... welcome to my linky!

I had to take a little break from the linky last week as i had way to much college work to get completed. This week though its back up and running and i hope you can join in.

This linky is for all you creative people out there to showcase your favourite craft or recipe posts.

If you made it, We'd like to see it :)

I've also set up a Make it Monday board on pinterest so I'll be adding your posts there for everyone to share.

Once it becomes a bit more established, i will start to have a featured make each week but since its early days i thought i would take it one step at a time.

The rules are simple ...
  • Link up maximum TWO posts - They can be old or new. Please don't just link up your blog home page.
  • Comment on the 'Host' post and at least 2 others, though more if you have the time. Its all about sharing the love here.
  • Add the "Make it Mondays" badge to your linked post so that others can find the linky and join in.
Feel free to tweet your post(s) along with the hashtag #MIMlinky and mention @craftymama087 so i can retweet for you.

Happy 2nd Blogging Birthday

I remember the night i started my blog ... 2 short years ago today

I was lying in bed wide awake in the early hours of the morning and to kill time during a bad bout of insomnia, i was reading some of my favourite blogs i found on Twitter.

I thought, I'd like to do this. I'd like to join in this community.

So i done some research, signed up with Blogger and published my first ever post.

This wasn't my first time attempting blogging though. I did have a mini stint before i really understood what a blog was. Its funny to look back at Sage Sews now. Its so simple compared to how far I've went.

I've learnt a lot in the last 2 years of blogging and I'm pleased that I'm still learning more as i go. I have made a few friends online and have a few blogs that i follow all the time. Its nice being able to share in their parenting experiences and see how their kids are growing :)

Some of my favourite blogs are below ... Just click on the logo to go to their page :)

So how will i celebrate this milestone? Why with a wee Giveaway of course :)

I'm giving away an Ultimate Crafting Collection to one lucky person. There are 10 books in this boxset which include ...
  • Crochet
  • Dressmaking Skirts and Dresses
  • Classic Knits
  • Fabric Crafts
  • Flower Arranging
  • Home Crafts
  • Paper Crafts
  • Stitch-by-Stitch
  • Baby and Toddler Knits
  • Christmas Crafts

There is definitely something for everyone in this boxset as well as detailed instructions on many crafts you might be new to.

The rules are simple ...
  • The giveaway is open to UK residents only as the boxset would be too heavy and costly to post abroad.
  • Two options are mandatory - Follow via Twitter and Like my Facebook page, the other 3 are optional but would give you extra entries. You can get up to 5 entries ... That's 5 chances to win.
  • The giveaway will end on the 10th April, with the winner being notified on the 11th of April.

I'm Loving - March

We're almost at the end of March and I'm still making a point of taking some "Me" time. I feel like its helping cause its been a while since I've had a really dark period. Yeah there have been some rocky days but they were due to extenuation circumstances ... so i think they can be ignored.

Anyway ... This month I'm loving ...

OPI New Orleans collection - As you know, I'm nail enamel nuts! I have a massive collection of colours and i often change my nail colour more than i have hot dinners! My favourite brand has to be OPI and i get way too excited when i get the Salon Services brochure through the door with a new collection. There Spring/Summer has arrived and as usual ... I'm in love!
Since i have a trade card i get the enamel discounted and thanks to a "buy 3 get 1 free" offer i picked up 4 bottles for £15 :)
I just love these colours ... Next Vat free day I'm going to go back and get another couple of bottles as there are loads of great colours in the New Orleans collection.

Grimm - When we had to give back the borrowed Elementary, i had a hole in my evening viewing. You see when Agent M is in bed for the night I've started going to my bed too and watching a DVD. Its nice to just lie and chill after being at college all day or doing the masses of paperwork/projects/housework i also have. So I'm going back to a long time favourite, Grimm.

I was given the 1-4 blu ray boxsets from Agent D as a Christmas Prezzie and although i had watched most of it, i still had the last half of Season 4 to finish. After that i got hooked again so I'm starting from the very beginning now and working my way back through. Season 5 is on Channel Five I'm told but since i don't have an aerial to watch terrestrial TV I'm just gonna have to wait for it to come out on DVD/Blu Ray (No spoilers please!).

Daffodils - One of the best parts of spring is the flowers (and i say that even though i get sever hay fever). One of my favourites are Daffodils and at the park close to us they bloom every year.

They have already started and i love it. Sitting in the park while Agent M plays is just so much nicer in the spring time.

And the Engineer said - Let there be Internet

After nearly 2 weeks of intermittent to zero internet i finally have it back up and running. I could have kissed the wee guy who finally sorted it but settled on a "thank you so much" and the offer of a Cadbury Creme Egg (cause that's a bit more my style!)

Now that i have access, i have so much to do and so much to share. We've had a birthday at the weekend and I'd been planning loads of Easter recipes. Doubt they will be done though since i have till this Thursday to get as much of my college work done for the big Hair Show on Thursday night ... But you never know. I could get some time somewhere.

I just don't have enough hours free.

I wont be doing Make It Monday this week so that i can try and catch up with everything but it will be up and running next Monday ... I promise.

I'll be back to blogging as soon as i get a chance but with 2 days till the show, i have to focus on that just now. I'll be sure to post pictures of the night on here (hopefully with non of me falling down the catwalk!)

Hugs to you all and i cant wait to catch up with what all my fellow bloggers have been up to.

What's my next move?

Have you ever played chess before?

I like to think of life sometimes as a game of chess. You plan your moves in advance and try to advance until life takes your king and it all ends with a checkmate. It seems like a game of chance but in reality, its all strategically planned, each more carefully though out.

I guess that's why I've always tried to live life with my next move planned out. When i decided to become a mum, When i decided to get out of my toxic relationship, when i changed jobs, when i started my relationship with Agent D and when i started college. Every move was thought out and carefully planned, like a blue print for life that i would follow. Sure there were always variants that i couldn't control but the plan was always followed and honestly i felt safe knowing that there was always a back-up plan in place. It was my security blanket.

Well now i have no blanket.

And I'm so lost.

I had this plan in my mind that i would go to college, I would get my qualifications, i would work freelance during my study time and afterwards i would get a job in a salon. I would work on extra training like evening classes to build up extra skills such as nails and tanning, till i had a big enough client base. I would make money to provide for Agent M and i. Agent D has been talking about us moving to England, If we did, we would all live together and i would be able to take the skills i have learnt down with me, working down in England, Maybe one day owning my own salon.

It was all planned and was on track for the first year and a half. Then my confidence was knocked by someone in a position of authority. This person completely destroyed my love for the industry and honestly, used my mental health against me. I feel broken and i have no idea what I'm going to do with my life as the ramifications from all this have left me without my second years qualification. Although i am trying my hardest and breaking my back to get my clients in and pass, I'm running out of time and honestly i don't see it happening any more.

I feel hurt but yet I'm not allowed to show it. I cant cry over it cause i cant let everyone know how sad i am. I cant scream, no matter how much i want to because I'm mum and i have to be strong. I cant confide in Agent D as he's just about to start a new job, going down his own path. I feel like I'm not allowed to say it but honestly ... I'm really scared.

I have responsibilities. I have Agent M to take care of. I have to set an example to him that you have to work for what you get and yet i have no idea what I'm going to do. I don't want to go back to call centre work but i don't have the experience in anything else. I'm so disheartened with Hairdressing just now that the idea of working in a salon has educed panic attacks since all this happened.

I don't know where my life is going and for the first time i can remember, i don't have a plan. I have no idea what my next move is ... and I'm bloody terrified!

Spring is in the air

Its almost here. You can feel it in the air ... Its almost Spring!

I'm loving it!

I've been opening the windows, letting the fresh air in and the stuffiness
out. We've been going for walks with the dog now that its not as cold and we've been enjoying fun days at the park.

We are really lucky to live within a half hours walk from two beautiful parks. This one, The Dean Castle Country park has some amazing views of nature as well as a few animals.

This weekend we went with my Granny, Aunt and my Cousins ... 4 generations on one outing :) The park has a lot to see and in the boys case, climb all over.

There is also a big play park, a section for the smaller kids and a section for the bigger kids (although they can obviously go between the two - The Tarzan style zip line is in the bigger kids bit)

All in it was a brilliant day out and great to finally get some fresh air in about us. I love seeing Agent M playing with his little cousins too. Its great that they can all grow up together :)

Agent M was a little worried that he got his shoes and his school jacket dirty but like i told him, it can all be washed and at the end of the day its only dirt.

I'd rather make memories and have a massive washing pile than him have a boring childhood and a half load of laundry.
